Koh Mook
Koh Mook (Muk) is a small rocky island off the coast of Trang province. On the east side, the island has a long sandy peninsula. Here lays a fishing village of the sea gypsy people and a coconut plantations. The village offers no tourist facilities, no shop, no restaurant and no bank machine. At the end of the peninsula, beautiful Sivalai Beach Resort was built some years ago. The close proximity to the fishing village and the mainland are the reason for the fact that the boat traffic with noisy longtails is fairly intensive. In the southwest of the island is a large bay with a beautiful sandy beach. Since Koh Mook has no pier, daily excursion boats stop here to unload guests at Koh Mook Charlie resort. Like Koh Ngai, the nabour island, Koh Mook counts more and more visitors, as day guests or as holiday guests. Its unique attraction is the Emerald Cave under the rocky westcoast, in which one can swim or kayak at low tide. Not much can be done on Koh Mook. Swimming, sun bathing, kayaking or relaxing in the shade of the trees is the choice. Day trips to Koh Kradan are worthwhile.
How to get there: Fly to Krabi (AirAsia) and come via Koh Lanta or fly to Trang (Nokair) and travel by boat from Pak Meng or Kantang on the Tang mainland. A daily boat leaves Koh Lanta at 9 a.m. from Ban Saladan. It stops at Koh Ngai and Koh Mook, after other snorkelling stops are completed (this may take some time). Boat connections to other places and times are possible by longtail boats on an individual basis, but quite expensive.
Rooms: On the west coast lays Koh Mook Charlie Resort with simple and comfortable bungalows at reasonable prices and a good restaurant. Unique in location and facilities is Koh Mook Sivalai Resort, a hot tip for island fans, who are not budget travelers (rooms rates start from 80 Euros) and seek for a little Maldives feeling in Thailand. However, the possible activities on the peninsula are very limited.
